Introducing a character Part Two: An example

This is an excerpt from In the flesh on the the BBC Writers Room. in this example it introduces LISA LANCASTER. when introducing this character the writer: Dominic Mitchel used outer presence, inner presence and context to give the audience a sense of who the character is.

He uses outer presence by writing how Lisa looks with her army surplus jacket and blood stained Human Volunteer Force band. showing that she is prepared for the worst outcome of the deserted supermarket, also by the way she talks which shows that she is quite rude towards others.

He also uses context by showing where she is a deserted supermarket just taking all of the food. the gun implies that it is a harsh world she is living in.

There is some inner presence show in this excerpt when she rides around on the trolley showing that she is really a kid inside and she wants to be free from the deserted situation she is in. (the zombie outbreak)
